The concept of integrating business and socio-economic development has been reflected in the well contentious market-based approach BoP 1.0. However, the BoP 1.0 has been suspected as a way of exploiting poor people as they are being considered as consumer or producer. In this setback, BoP 2.0, came into existence which outlines the business model of entrepreneurship creation that treats BoP people as entrepreneurs and thus ensure the wellbeing of the BoP segment. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to examine the factors that could enhance business success of the BoP entrepreneurs and subsequently analyze its impact on the subjective wellbeing of these BoP entrepreneurs. The study aimed to investigate the role of private organization support i.e. information, technical, and training support that lead to success of the businesses through the entrepreneurial competencies. It also considered the moderating role of government and NGO support. A mixed method approach was applied with a major focus on quantitative data collection and analysis, followed by qualitative approach

Recent Progress in Electrical Generators for Oceanic Wave Energy Conversion

    Get PDF
Oceanic wave energy extraction through electrical generator is one of the most interesting topics in the field of power engineering. Almost all the existing relevant review paper focus on electrical generator with the working principle of electromagnetic induction or piezoelectric or triboelectric effect. In this paper, all the existing types (based on principle of operation) of electrical generator used for wave power harvesting are discussed. This paper not only covers recent progress in electrical power generation by electro-magnetic induction, piezoelectric generator, and electrostatic induction, but also presents critical comparative review as well where suitable use and weakness of each type of generators are discussed. Moreover, the application of advanced magnetic core, winding, and permanent magnets are discussed with extensive explanation which are not focused in the existing reviews. Various new constructional features of the electrical generators such as split translator flux switching, two-point absorber, triangular coil, dual port linear generator, piezoelectric, triboelectric nanogenerator, etc. are highlighted with principles of operation. It also includes emerging human intervened optimization method for determining optimum shape of generator and cooling system which is necessary to prevent demagnetization of the permanent magnet. Finally, the way of supply the generated electrical power form the generator to load/grid is thoroughly described in a separate section that would be obvious for successful operation. The comparison among all types of generators in terms of output voltage, current, scale of power production, power-frequency characteristics, power density, cascading, and approaches are tabulated in this paper

The objective of this paper is to explore the psychological factors of innovativeness that drives nomadic micro entrepreneurs’ (MEs) in enhancing their business growth in Malaysia. Nomadic micro entrepreneurs refer to those who regularly change the location of their business. To meet the research objective, the current study carried out in-depth interviews among the Nomadic MEs operating their business in Northern region, Malaysia. Twenty Nomadic MEs were interviewed on voluntary basis. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify the recurring themes that delineate psychological factors that may influence innovativeness. Interestingly, the findings revealed that the innovativeness of Nomadic MEs is influenced by four psychological characteristics namely sense of curiosity, interest, risk taking, and risk avoidance. The contribution of this study lies in the identification of four substantial psychological factors that act as a foundation for innovativeness among nomadic micro entrepreneurs’ (MEs) in enhancing their business growth

The functionality of entrepreneurial passion and entrepreneurial bricolage on micro-entrepreneur’s wellbeing

This study investigates the relationships between entrepreneurial passion, entrepreneurial bricolage, and subjective wellbeing. A total of 253 usable data were collected from the micro-entrepreneurs in Bangladesh and data were analyzed by SEMPLS3.0 employing structure equation modelling. The results indicate that subjective wellbeing is significantly predicted by entrepreneurial passion and bricolage. Bricolage also found to play a mediating role between passion and wellbeing. The results of the study validate that passionate entrepreneurs who embrace bricolage will achieve wellbeing through their ventures. The paper makes contribution to the knowledge domain by bridging the concept of subjective wellbeing with entrepreneurial passion and bricolage

How do Consumption Values Influence Online Purchase Intention among School Leavers in Malaysia?

    Get PDF
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to reveal the significant consumption values of consumers that drive them towards online purchasing. The study conceptualised and analysed a consumption value model as a predictor for intention to purchase online in the context of Malaysian school leavers familiar with the internet. Design/methodology/approach – In order to achieve its aim, this study carried out empirical research using a structured questionnaire sent to the potential respondents. In addition, the data were analysed using the structural equation modelling technique. Findings – The result of the study indicates that functional and emotional values have a strong relationship and predict online purchasing intention. However, social, epistemic, and conditional values do not predict intentions to purchase online. Originality/value – The result will increase the understanding of owners and managers of e-commerce businesses and help them to formulate their business strategies in order to retain users and attract new ones. Furthermore, the study will also enable e-commerce stakeholders to offer products/services to consumers in order to enhance e-commerce activities
